Working here at Valvoline Instant Oil Change has changed my life tremendously. When I started here two years ago, I knew absolutely nothing about cars. I came here from six years of food service. So coming into a service center, not knowing anything about what you're supposed to be a specialist on was really intimidating. But everyone in my service center had such a strong sense of Vamily, with a V, mind you, but they really actually, besides having the sense of Vamily, they had a huge sense of support. They slowed down, took things step by step with me, made sure that I really understood what I was doing, and understood why we're doing it. For that, I'm tremendously grateful for everyone that I've met here, and I don't think I'm going anywhere anytime soon.

Hi, my name is Evan, and I'm a Senior Technician here at Valvoline. Today I was asked to describe a day in the life of a technician. A day in the life of a technician starts with meeting with your trainer, and talking about what goals you have for that day. At Valvoline we have a training program called the VIOC University. On the university you'll go through a training courses every day. During that training, you'll learn everything from opening a hood to flushing a transmission. My trainer was very patient, answered any questions that I have may have had. The best part about my day as a technician, would have to be being around my whole team. When we get those little 10-minute breaks, those are great times to get to know who you're working with and get to know their personality beyond the work uniform. And that's the best part of the day for me.

The career progression within Valvoline is one of the greatest programs that I've ever personally been a part of. I was able to make a part time job become a career in just about six to eight months I'd say. I started off as a part time technician. I had had another job that was originally my full time job and my boss came up to me and said, "I think you're a great worker." And I said, "Thank you very much." And he was like, "How would you feel about getting a promotion?" And I was like, "I feel great about that." And then he was like, "All right, let's get you trained." I made the switch over from part time to full time. He focused on me. He got me a trainer. I was trained in about four months. And about six to eight months, I'm running my own service center and I couldn't be more grateful. And I just want everyone else there to know that your career within this company is 100% up to you.
