How You’ll Make a Difference
The Sr. Tax Accountant position requires significant experience with corporate tax compliance processes and practices; significant corporate tax subject matter expertise (state and local); experience in tax accounting and tax provision matters (preferred but not required); and experience with ERP and tax software platforms. In the role, you would be responsible for:
- Leading review and preparation of state and local estimated payments and returns taking into consideration filing positions, law changes, and new business developments. Including, but not limited to, reviewing supporting workpapers and analysis, internal controls and retention policies, apportionment schedules, state depreciation modifications, NOLs and credits, and return summaries. Managing the timeliness and accuracy of actual estimated filings and payments prepared by external firm.
- Take full ownership of reviewing and preparing state tax provision calculations, workpapers, and supporting schedules based on SAP financial records and supporting internal controls and retention policies. Analyzing state FIN48 tax positions and providing updates to tax accounting team when necessary.
- Monitoring tax law changes impacting Valvoline and presenting tax planning opportunities to Tax Manager. Develop tax strategies by reviewing and researching state and local tax issues and identifying tax savings.
- Closely work with tax controversy group to discuss audit and notice adjustments by providing workpapers and research support. Ensure changes in audits and notices are reflected in future filings. Communicate with outside taxing authorities to discuss changes and findings of state tax adjustments.
- Proficient in Corptax tax software with experience as selected admin of prior company. Administering income tax software and identifying areas to improve efficiency and accuracy in tax compliance.
- Attend professional development and training sessions when applicable.
- Other duties and responsibilities as determined by Valvoline from time to time in its sole discretion.
What You Will Need:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferably Accounting) or equivalent combination of experience and education (“ECEE”)
- Minimum of 5 years of tax accounting experience
- Must possess a core level of accounting theory and be able to understand financial data with strong computer skills
- Strong Microsoft Suite abilities, including, but not limited to, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Proven experience working with tax software (i.e. OneSource, CorpTax, Vertex, etc.)
- Proven experience working with ERP systems (i.e. SAP, JD Edwards, etc.)
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

*In addition to your salary, you are eligible for the Valvoline Incentive Plan (VIP) with a target of x% of eligible base salary earnings. The VIP is based upon Valvoline Inc. financial performance and provides a payout opportunity on an annual fiscal year basis (October 1 through September 30) and will be pro-rated from date of hire.
