The Opportunity
The Retail Accountant is responsible for supporting accurate accounting and financial reporting for retail store operations. This role supports timely month-end close activities, maintains general ledger accuracy, prepares and analyzes financial results, and ensures compliance with U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and company policies. The Retail Accountant partners closely with Operations, FP&A, and internal stakeholders to support high-quality financial outcomes and continuous improvement across the retail business.

- Prepare, review, and post monthly journal entries related to retail store operations, including accruals, reclasses, and other routine accounting activities
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts, investigate variances, and support timely resolution of outstanding items as part of the month-end close process
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial results for retail store operations and provide insights to support business decision-making
- Partner with Operations, FP&A, and other cross-functional teams to support accurate financial reporting and improve business processes
- Support period-end close activities by ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with company policies and accounting standards
- Maintain and monitor controls, procedures, and documentation to support compliance with U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and company policies
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, reports, and supporting documentation
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, controls, and system utilization to drive efficiency and accuracy
What You Will Need:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- 2–3+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in retail, multi-location, or other operationally complex environments
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and core accounting principles
- Experience with journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting retail store operations or multi-location business environments
- Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP S/4HANA or equivalent)
- Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, or operational partnership
