How You’ll Make a Difference
Valvoline has a rewarding opportunity as a Data Engineer II. The VRS data team is building the future state of how Valvoline will use data to support reporting, forecasting, decision making, and more for stores and our customers. To help us continue that progress, we are looking for a Data Engineer II who can help us implement and manage our data estate for analytics and data consumption using the data mesh framework.
In this role, you'll build and maintain data solutions. You’ll get to utilize new technologies, modern CI/CD practices, and the right tools to enhance our ability to deliver value to our customers. You'll also be responsible for tackling complex challenges through data-driven Software/AI engineering challenges.
- Implement and configure AWS storage and serverless compute layers to create data lakes that Athena and data lake services can query.
- Implement data models and ETL/ELT pipelines into our data warehouses and data lakes.
- Use SQL to analyze data integrity and root cause analysis. Utilize SQL to build reports, views, and tables. Optimize SQL queries for performance.
- Assist in the creation of new data pipelines and automation systems that enhance data-driven decision-making.
- Document processes, models, and workflows and provide support and training to peers as needed
- Utilize AI coding tools to increase productivity, understand code, assist in documentation and RCA. Drive the AI use, rather than be driven by AI.
- Create and update infrastructure and configure services and infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
- Develop improvements and new features to python and pyspark libraries, frameworks, and platforms. Implement pyspark notebooks.

What You’ll Need to Succeed
Required:
- Bachelor Degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering or related field or relevant years of experience
- 5+ years of work experience designing, programming, and supporting software programs or applications, preferably in a data related field
- Experience with building data pipelines for collecting, transforming, and integrating data from various sources
- Experience with cloud platforms like AWS (S3, Lambda, Glue) and cloud services like Databricks, or similar tech stack
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, and related technology stacks
- Comprehensive understanding of the data lifecycle, from ideation and ETL/ELT processes, through deployment of data products, ensuring efficient data enablement and reporting solutions
- Experience using Copilot (or similar AI tool) in day-to-day workflow
- Experience with Github
- Ability to make reusable, testable, and scalable code a huge plus.
- Utilization of programming best practices is a huge plus.
Nice to Have
- Experience in AI/ML engineering, platform architecture, and data infrastructure. With scalable, secure, and reusable AI systems.
- Experience in architecting Generative AI and agentic workflows that enable autonomous decision-making, inter-agent collaboration
- Experience in prompt engineering, embedding design, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)
- Experience in deploying AI agents on platforms like AWS and/or Databricks·
