As a Senior Manager, Internal Controls & Compliance you oversee Valvoline’s Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance program, ensuring all internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) are designed, implemented, and maintained to meet regulatory requirements. Reporting directly to the Chief Accounting Officer, your duties include leading a team, assessing control risks, driving, and tracking SOX remediation initiatives, and communicating compliance status to senior management and external auditors. This role will collaborate closely with Internal Audit and the broader organization.

How You’ll Make a Difference
- Establish and maintain internal controls over financial reporting, policies, and related procedures
- Monitor effectiveness of financial reporting control environment
- Establish annually the scope for management’s internal control assessment
- Perform periodic assessment of sufficiency of internal control coverage based on changes in underlying business and financial results
- Manage projects and coordinate with management and internal and external auditors to complete annual assessment of control effectiveness.
- Evaluate results of operational effectiveness testing completed by auditors and other deficiencies identified by management
- Monitor and evaluate control effectiveness, including coordination with business and auditors to timely remediate deficiencies
- Communicate ICFR status and insights to stakeholders, including senior management, board members, and investors
- Oversee execution of quarterly control certifications to monitor key controls for changes and effectiveness
- Evaluate the severity of non-remediated deficiencies at year-end and impact on overall conclusions of controls effectiveness
- Oversee execution of certain monitoring and key controls (related party transactions, reconciliation oversight, access and segregation of duties, journal entry monitoring)
- Manage and mentor the financial reporting controls team, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Education: A bachelor's or master's degree in accounting or a related field is preferred.
- Work Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience, with preferred experience in retail, public companies and / or public accounting.
- Preference to candidates with 5+ years public accounting experience and 5+ years of internal reporting experience. Experience should include Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
- Licenses & Certifications: CPA preferred.
- Preferred Skills:
- Strong technical accounting and broad understanding of US GAAP
- Strong research, analytical, detail orientation, and problem-solving skills
- Strong organization, prioritization, delegation, and project management skills
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate (both verbally and written) with personnel at all levels throughout the organization and with external partners
- Strong ethical values and ability to resolve conflicts without sacrificing ethical decision making
- SAP S4 HANA ERP system experience
- Proven track record for developing teams and working cross functionally with team members

*In addition to your salary, you are eligible for the Valvoline Incentive Plan (VIP) with a target of x% of eligible base salary earnings. The VIP is based upon Valvoline Inc. financial performance and provides a payout opportunity on an annual fiscal year basis (October 1 through September 30) and will be pro-rated from date of hire.
