The Opportunity
Valvoline has a rewarding opportunity as a Brand Communications and Equity Manager. In this role, you will collaborate cross-functionally to create brand relevancy with consumers, drive profitable growth, and develop activities that build and support brand equity. This person will take the lead in managing internal and external creative agencies and has accountability for brand planning, creative strategy, and in-store merchandising, utilizing best practices to create measurable value and new customer growth. You will play a key role in shaping the brand image, ensuring consistency across all channels, and maximizing the online and offline presence and exposure of our brand.

Valvoline Headquarters is located in Lexington, KY. We are open to remote candidates who can travel to HQ as needed.


How You'll Make a Difference

  • Activate Brand Strategy to Drive New Customer Acquisition
    • Translate business objectives and goals and strategies into actionable cross-channel tactics that efficiently drive sales and meet/exceed KPI goals with a focus on new customer acquisition.
    • Leverage consumer insights to develop best-in-class branding. Collaborate with segment owners and research and analytics teams to translate insights into winning messaging.
    • Author creative briefs based on consumer insights, segmentation, and cultural opportunities.
    • Conduct routine analysis of competition, category and consumer.
    • Work in concert with media strategist and media agencies to deliver channel appropriate creative executions that deliver on key media KPIs.
  • Cultivate Brand Integrity
    • Lead annual brand planning, inclusive of SWOT analysis and strategy roadmap. Collaborate with segment owners to drive brand strategy across marketing organization.
    • Collaborate with the marketing team and other resource groups to ensure a consistent brand image across all channels. Enforce brand standards across the organization.
    • Monitor ongoing brand health metrics, making recommendations to evolve and sustain health.
  • Lead Creative Development for Mass Advertising and Merchandising
    • Lead creative team and external agencies to develop ad campaigns and marketing collateral to deliver business objectives. Work with creative agency and internal media team to map the appropriate messages to the appropriate creative vehicles, placements and sequencing.
    • Manage internal creative team to deliver strong branded assets throughout the organization.
    • Lead in-store brand experience include of merchandising, messaging and POS, Planograms and collaborate with Real Estate on store branding.
  • Oversee Brand Operations and Administration
    • Ensure on time, on budget delivery of all creative executions.
    • Manage creative agency scope of work, track hours and manage resources to meet business objectives
    • Manage working & non-working budget. Record, report and process all budget items.
    • Partner with media lead to monitor media KPIs performance to inform optimization of creative tactics
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by Valvoline from time to time in its sole discretion.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or similar field (MBA is a plus)
  • Minimum of five years of experience in creative strategy/brand planning within the retail or service industry, agency management, creative execution
  • Experience leading teams and projects in a fast-paced environment and collaborating across multiple functions
  • Demonstrable experience and expertise in leading campaign development from conception to execution
  • Knowledge of fundamental research methodologies
  • Fluency in digital and traditional media
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, as needed
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Deadline driven
  • Detail oriented
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S
